Fireworks

CrimeDramaRomanceThriller103 min

Beleaguered detective Nishi is trying to hold together a life coming apart: his wife is ill with leukemia, his partner has been paralyzed in a gangster attack, and a debt to a yakuza loan shark is closing in. Takeshi Kitano is Nishi, a police officer whose effort to set things right drives him toward increasingly desperate choices, including a bank robbery. At home, Kayoko Kishimoto is his ailing wife, giving the story a second thread of private grief alongside the criminal pressure building around him. Fireworks moves between police fallout, gangland threats and a marriage shadowed by loss.
