Los Angeles teenager Ritchie Valens shoots from neighborhood kid to rock ’n’ roll sensation in 1958 after writing “Donna” for his girlfriend. Lou Diamond Phillips is Ritchie, riding sudden fame while trying to stay connected to his family and the life he knew before the radio hits. At home, tension builds with his older brother Bob; Esai Morales brings volatility to a sibling bond shaped by jealousy, pride, and old resentments. As Ritchie heads out on a national tour alongside Buddy Holly and the Big Bopper, recurring dreams of a plane crash begin to shadow his rise.
