The Year of Living Dangerously

DramaRomanceWar115 min

In 1965 Jakarta, Australian reporter Guy Hamilton is chasing access and a story as Sukarno’s Indonesia edges toward upheaval. Mel Gibson is Guy, a foreign correspondent trying to work past official barriers with help from Billy Kwan (Linda Hunt), a diminutive photographer whose contacts reach across the city. As the political climate tightens, Guy is drawn to Sigourney Weaver’s embassy aide while the foreign press circles rumors, unrest, and a government determined to keep outsiders at a distance. Peter Weir’s film places newsroom ambition, private loyalties, and a volatile capital side by side.
