The Poughkeepsie Tapes

CrimeHorrorMysteryThriller86 min

After police discover hundreds of videotapes in an abandoned house in Poughkeepsie, this pseudo-documentary pieces together a serial killer’s decade-long campaign of abduction, torture and murder. The film moves between detectives, FBI profilers and survivors, using interview footage and the killer’s own recordings to trace how he operated across 1990s upstate New York and how long he stayed ahead of law enforcement. Stacy Chbosky and Ben Messmer are among the faces threaded through the case file as the story shifts from procedural detail to the disturbing evidence left behind by the so-called Water Street Butcher.
