Kenshin Himura is a former assassin wandering Japan in 1868 with an inverted-blade sword and a vow never to kill again. Takeru Satoh is the scarred swordsman, now using his skill to protect strangers as the country shifts into the early Meiji era. When he crosses paths with Kaoru (Emi Takei), a young dojo owner whose school is being threatened, Kenshin is pulled into a fight that links his violent past to a new criminal threat. The film grounds its samurai action in the aftermath of the Bakumatsu war, with Kenshin moving through a country remaking itself while he tries to live by a stricter code.
