DramaRomance83 min

Leslie Howard is Philip, a British medical student whose fixation on a waitress begins to consume his ambitions and his sense of self. Bette Davis’s Mildred meets his devotion with contempt, yet Philip keeps circling back, tying his future to a woman who gives him little in return. As he tries to continue his studies and build a respectable life, their on-and-off relationship keeps drawing him back into humiliation and disappointment. What begins as infatuation hardens into a destructive attachment Philip can’t seem to shake.
