The Danish Girl

DramaRomance120 min

In 1920s Copenhagen, painter Gerda Wegener asks her husband, Einar, to sit in for a female model, and the session opens a path for Einar to live as Lili Elbe. Eddie Redmayne is Lili, moving from the couple’s shared artistic world into a more public, uncertain life, while Alicia Vikander’s Gerda remains partner, subject, and witness as their marriage changes around them. Inspired by the lives of Danish painters Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener, the story moves between Copenhagen and Paris as Lili’s identity comes into focus and Gerda’s work and devotion are tested alongside it.
