El submarino

DramaWar150 min

In 1942, the crew of the German U-boat U-96 heads into the Battle of the Atlantic expecting to hunt Allied convoys; before long, the submarine is fighting to stay ahead of destroyers and depth charges. Jürgen Prochnow is the boat’s captain, holding his men together inside the steel hull, while Herbert Grönemeyer’s war correspondent watches routine, fear, and fatigue take over below deck. Directed by Wolfgang Petersen, the film stays close to the mechanics of submarine warfare and the strain of life underwater, where duty and comradeship are tested as hard as the boat itself.
