Deputy U.S. Marshal Clay Hardin is about to trade his badge for the territory’s Indian commissioner post when an outlaw guns down the marshal during an arrest, sending him back into the field. Sterling Hayden is Clay, who abandons the safer job to hunt the gang across the frontier. On the trail, he’s joined by a bounty hunter (Zachary Scott) and a woman he meets along the way, with Yvonne De Carlo rounding out the trio. Their pursuit carries them into Apache land, where Clay uncovers a plan to sell repeating rifles to the Indians and finds the manhunt widening into something larger than revenge.
