Mary Poppins

ComedyFamilyFantasyMusical139 min

Turn-of-the-century London gets an unexpected new nanny when Mary Poppins arrives at the Banks home to care for Jane and Michael, two children growing distant from their busy parents. Julie Andrews is Mary, brisk, mysterious, and capable of turning ordinary routines into something stranger. Alongside Dick Van Dyke’s Bert, a cheerful chimney sweep and street artist, she leads the children into outings that move from rooftop dances to a park inhabited by animated penguins. Back at home, David Tomlinson’s George Banks is a rigid banker whose household runs on rules, making Mary Poppins’s mix of order, music, and magic all the more disruptive.
