After three teenage girls are abducted and locked in an underground facility, Casey looks for any opening she can find in the shifting behavior of the man holding them. James McAvoy is Kevin, whose psychiatrist, Dr. Fletcher (Betty Buckley), has documented 23 separate identities and fears another is close to emerging. Anya Taylor-Joy's Casey is the most observant of the girls, watching Kevin's moods, routines, and rules as the boundaries between his personalities begin to give way. M. Night Shyamalan builds the story around captivity, fractured identity, and the threat of something Kevin's other selves can no longer contain.
