Maudie

DramaRomance115 min

Canadian folk artist Maud Lewis leaves her family home in Nova Scotia to take a job as a live-in housekeeper for a solitary fish peddler. Sally Hawkins is Maud, determined to live on her own despite arthritis and a family that doubts her, while Ethan Hawke’s Everett keeps the world at a distance from his cramped house and daily route. As Maud spends more time painting than cleaning, the arrangement between employer and housekeeper shifts into a difficult, intimate partnership, tracing the early life of an artist whose work would carry far beyond the small space where she made it.
