The Country Girl

Drama104 min

Faded stage actor Frank Elgin gets one more chance to reclaim his career when director Bernie Dodd casts him in a new musical, but his alcoholism and stage fright threaten the production from the start. Bing Crosby is Frank, a onetime star whose self-respect has eroded along with his fame. William Holden's Bernie looks past the backstage chaos and fixes his frustration on Frank's wife, Georgie (Grace Kelly), convinced she is part of the problem. As rehearsals continue, the story turns inward to a strained marriage marked by grief, guilt, and dependency.
