Inside Colditz Castle, a supposedly escape-proof POW camp deep in wartime Germany, Allied officers keep looking for a way past the walls and back across the Reich. John Mills is Pat Reid, the British officer helping organize escape plans, while Eric Portman brings a stricter note as one of the camp’s senior prisoners. Drawn from Reid’s recollections, the film follows the British, French, Dutch, and Polish inmates as they improvise tools, hide their intentions from German guards, and turn the routines of captivity into an ongoing battle of patience, discipline, and deception.
