Heavenly Creatures
CrimeDramaFantasyThriller99 min
In 1950s Christchurch, Juliet arrives from England and quickly forms an all-consuming friendship with Pauline, the quiet classmate who shares her love of fantasy and literature. Kate Winslet is Juliet, while Melanie Lynskey's Pauline meets her halfway in an elaborate private world that grows more intense as family pressure mounts around them. Drawing on a notorious New Zealand case, Peter Jackson’s film moves between schoolgirl intimacy and the girls’ imagined kingdom, where daydreams, devotion, and resentment begin to blur.
