The Quiet American

DramaRomanceThrillerWar101 min

In 1950s Saigon, a cynical British correspondent finds his affair with a young Vietnamese woman unsettled by the arrival of an idealistic American whose interest in her — and in the country’s future — grows harder to ignore. Michael Caine is Thomas Fowler, covering a colonial war with practiced detachment, while Brendan Fraser’s Alden Pyle brings easy manners and increasingly uneasy political entanglements. Do Thi Hai Yen is Phuong, at the center of a triangle shaped by intimacy, jealousy, and the violence gathering around the city.
