Bacurau

ActionAdventureDramaHorrorMysteryThrillerWestern132 min

After the death of its 94-year-old matriarch, a tiny village in Brazil’s sertão begins to notice something is wrong: Bacurau has vanished from maps, a drone circles overhead, and strangers are moving at the edges of town. Bárbara Colen and Sônia Braga are part of the community at the center of the story, while Udo Kier turns up among the outsiders closing in. The film starts in mourning and drifts into menace, treating the village less as backdrop than as a place whose people know one another, their history, and what they’re up against.
