Tom Cruise is Lieutenant Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, a reckless young Navy aviator whose dream comes true when he and his friend and co-pilot Goose (Anthony Edwards) are sent to Top Gun, the elite fighter weapons school in San Diego. Flying off the USS Enterprise, Maverick stands out for his instincts and nerve, but the same swagger that makes him formidable in the cockpit puts him under pressure once training begins.
