An idealistic FBI agent is recruited into a government task force operating along the U.S.-Mexico border, where the war on drugs quickly turns into something murkier. Emily Blunt is the bureau agent dropped into raids, interrogations, and cross-border operations she doesn’t fully control, while Josh Brolin’s flip, opaque team leader keeps the mission’s rules shifting. Benicio Del Toro circles the operation as a quiet consultant with his own stake in the violence. Denis Villeneuve frames the borderlands as a place of surveillance, secrecy, and escalating brutality, as official procedure gives way to methods that leave the agent questioning who she’s working for.
