DramaRomanceWar97 min

In Moscow on the eve of World War II, Veronika and Boris fall in love and promise to meet again before he leaves for the front. Tatyana Samoylova is Veronika, left behind as Boris disappears into the war and her letters go unanswered; after an air raid destroys her home, she moves in with Boris’s family. Aleksey Batalov’s Boris remains mostly a memory and a hope, while wartime life closes in around Veronika through bomb shelters, crowded rooms, and the unsettling attention of Boris’s cousin.
