Zac Efron is Cole Carter, a 23-year-old Los Angeles DJ chasing a breakout track while spending his days with childhood friends and his nights in Hollywood’s electronic-music scene. A meeting with Wes Bentley’s James Reed, an established DJ, gives Cole a mentor and what looks like a way into the life he’s been aiming for. Then Cole starts falling for James’s girlfriend Sophie (Emily Ratajkowski), turning his climb through clubs, parties, and studio sessions into a tangle of ambition, loyalty, and strained friendships.
