In 1988 Alaska, a small-town TV reporter spots three gray whales trapped under Arctic ice and suddenly finds himself at the center of a rescue that grows far beyond Barrow. John Krasinski is Adam Carlson, chasing the story even as his ex, Greenpeace volunteer Rachel Kramer, pulls him into the campaign; Drew Barrymore gives Rachel a determined, uneasy connection to Adam as cameras and officials crowd in. Based on a true story, the film tracks the push to save the whales as local residents, environmental activists, and Cold War rivals are drawn into the same frozen emergency.
