The Homesman

DramaWestern122 min

In the 1850s Midwest, Hilary Swank is Mary Bee Cuddy, a devout, independent homesteader asked to take three women undone by frontier life from the Nebraska Territories to Iowa. When the wagon journey proves too dangerous to make alone, she cuts a claim-jumping drifter loose from a hanging tree and recruits Tommy Lee Jones’s George Briggs to ride with her. Grace Gummer, Miranda Otto, and Sonja Richter are the women in her care, with Meryl Streep as the minister’s wife expecting them at the end of the trip. The road east crosses open prairie, isolation, and mounting peril.
