A group of Soviet army recruits complete their training and are sent into late-1980s Afghanistan, where a remote posting becomes part of the final months of the Soviet-Afghan War. Artur Smolyaninov and Aleksey Chadov are among the young soldiers at the center of the story, as the film follows their unit from the routines of army life to combat in the mountains near Khost. Against a backdrop of a weakening Soviet campaign and insurgents gaining ground, the men are forced to confront how quickly camaraderie, discipline, and fear can shift once the war stops feeling distant.
