Baker Dill is a fishing boat captain on isolated Plymouth Island, spending his days chasing an elusive tuna and trying to keep his personal demons at bay until his ex-wife Karen turns up with a desperate request. Matthew McConaughey’s Baker lives by the routines of the dock and the sea; Anne Hathaway is Karen, who asks him to save her and their son from her abusive new husband, Frank (Jason Clarke), by taking him out on the water and making sure he doesn’t come back. As Dill weighs the plan, the island’s closed-off world starts to feel stranger and less stable than it first appeared.
