An alien crew from the intergalactic fast-food chain Crumb’s Crunchy Delights lands in the New Zealand town of Kaihoro to turn human flesh into its next menu item. When the town is wiped out and aid worker Giles is captured, the country’s Astro-Investigation and Defense Service mounts a rescue that turns into a siege on the aliens’ headquarters. Peter Jackson’s directorial debut throws gore, gunfire, and deadpan absurdity into the same blender, with Jackson also appearing on screen alongside Terry Potter as the badly overmatched team sent in to clean up the invasion.
