George Clooney is the troubled psychologist sent to an isolated research station orbiting a bizarre planet, where the small crew he’s meant to evaluate offers few clear answers. The mystery closes in quickly: the station feels cut off, the people aboard are strained, and the investigation keeps turning back on his own state of mind. Natascha McElhone is a central presence alongside Clooney, with Viola Davis and Jeremy Davies among the station’s uneasy inhabitants. Directed by Steven Soderbergh, Solaris keeps its science-fiction premise spare and close, with long silences and an unsettling sense of distance.
