In 2029, when cybernetics and the net have made brain-hacking possible, Section 9 is sent after the Puppetmaster, a wanted hacker whose intrusions pull the unit into a political struggle. Atsuko Tanaka leads the Japanese voice cast, with Akio Ōtsuka alongside her, as the investigation moves through a wired city of surveillance, data, and synthetic bodies. Mamoru Oshii’s film builds its world through police procedure, dense technology, and long stretches of urban stillness, keeping the focus on how fragile memory and identity become once human minds can be entered like any other system.
