After offering a bellboy $2,000 to marry her on the spot, a woman named Emily becomes the center of a murder case tied to a wealthy family and a looming inheritance. Joan Marshall's Emily works as caretaker to Helga (Eugenie Leontovich), a wheelchair-bound mute who once raised siblings Miriam Webster and her half-brother Warren. As police attention closes in, the arrangement around the family estate grows stranger, with Emily moving through it all in unsettling ways. Directed by William Castle, the film threads its mystery through hotel rooms, old resentments, and a household built on secrecy.
