Death in Venice
DramaRomance131 min
Dirk Bogarde is composer Gustav von Aschenbach, who travels to Venice for his health and takes rooms at the Grand Hôtel des Bains on the Lido. There he becomes fixated on Tadzio (Björn Andrésen), a Polish boy staying with his family at the same hotel, while rumors of cholera move through the city. The film stays close to Gustav’s gaze, with Venice’s formal dining rooms, beach rituals, and decaying grandeur pressing in around him.
