ComedyDramaRomance100 min

In the mid-1950s, a plainspoken mechanic crosses paths with a Princeton doctoral candidate and falls hard, even though she seems headed toward a more proper match. Their unlikely romance gets an unusual ally in her uncle, Albert Einstein, who decides the mechanic may be a better fit than the polished academic already in the picture. As Einstein starts nudging events from the sidelines, the mechanic tries to bridge the gap between working-class instinct and rarefied intellect. Tim Robbins and Meg Ryan lead a courtship full of misunderstandings, schemes, and class friction, with Einstein turning the couple’s private attraction into a larger contest over who truly belongs together.
