John Travolta is Chili Palmer, a Miami mobster sent to Los Angeles to collect a debt from Harry Zimm (Gene Hackman), a Hollywood producer turning out cheesy horror movies. In L.A., Chili is drawn to Harry’s leading lady, played by Rene Russo, and starts seeing the movie business through a gangster’s eyes. When he pitches his own life story as a film, debt collection, dealmaking, and studio ambition begin to overlap, with mob figures and industry operators all chasing the same money.
