The Big Short

ComedyDocumentaryDramaThriller131 min

As the U.S. housing bubble swells in the years before the 2008 crash, a handful of investors and analysts realize the mortgage market is built on bad loans and make an audacious bet against the system. Adam McKay tracks their intersecting paths through Wall Street, banks, and ratings agencies, turning opaque financial jargon into something sharper and stranger. Christian Bale and Steve Carell are among the outsiders following the numbers, while the film mixes newsroom urgency, dark comedy, and occasional fourth-wall breaks to show how fraud, denial, and easy money fed a global collapse.
