On his fourth tour in Afghanistan, Marine captain Sam Cahill is presumed dead after his helicopter goes down, leaving his wife Grace and their two daughters to pick up the pieces at home. Tobey Maguire is Sam, while Natalie Portman’s Grace tries to hold the family together as Sam’s younger brother Tommy, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, begins stepping into the space Sam left behind. When Sam returns unexpectedly, the fragile new balance inside the Cahill family gives way to suspicion, guilt, and the effects of what he endured overseas.
