The Edge of Democracy

Documentary121 min

As Brazil’s democracy buckles under impeachment fights, corruption scandals, and a widening political divide, this documentary follows the rise and fall of Presidents Dilma Rousseff and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva from unusually close range. Petra Costa folds her own family history into the story, linking private memory to public upheaval as protests fill the streets and power shifts in Brasília. With access to Rousseff, Lula, and the figures around them, the film traces how a national crisis deepened into polarization and opened the door to a new political era.
