The Wizard of Lies

CrimeDocumentaryDramaThriller135 min

Bernie Madoff’s Wall Street empire is built on fraud, and as the scheme closes in around him, the damage spreads from investors to the people at his own table. Robert De Niro is Madoff in Barry Levinson’s account of the massive Ponzi scheme and the wreckage it leaves behind. Michelle Pfeiffer’s Ruth tries to hold onto a life built on money, status, and denial, while their family is pulled into the fallout. Rather than staying at the level of headlines, the film keeps its focus on the deception itself and on a household collapsing under the weight of it.
