Dark Passage

DramaMysteryThriller106 min

Convicted of murdering his wife, Vincent Parry escapes prison and slips into San Francisco, racing to prove he was framed before the police close in. Humphrey Bogart is Parry, and for much of the opening the camera stays with his point of view as he hides out, climbs fire escapes, and searches for a way forward. Lauren Bacall’s Irene Jansen is the one person willing to help him, offering shelter and a chance to start over while he pursues a risky plan involving plastic surgery. The setup turns a man-on-the-run story into a tense, unusual mystery built around identity and suspicion.
