After his father’s death, Oliver starts a tentative relationship with the irreverent Anna, and the new intimacy sends him back through memories of his family. Ewan McGregor is Oliver, a graphic designer sorting through grief and the example left by his father, Hal (Christopher Plummer), who came out at 75 after the death of his wife and threw himself into a newly public gay life, including a younger boyfriend. Mélanie Laurent’s Anna enters Oliver’s life just as those recollections resurface, linking a present-day romance with the late-life transformation that changed his father and reshaped how Oliver thinks about love.
