A Ghost Story for Christmas: Lot No. 249

29 min

In 1881 at Oxford’s Old College, three neighboring scholars circle one another uneasily. Abercrombie Smith lives by reason and physical discipline, Monkhouse Lee is a sheltered student far from home, and between them Edward Bellingham pursues obsessive studies of ancient Egypt that have already made him a subject of gossip. When Bellingham acquires a mummified corpse known only as Lot No. 249, his late-night experiments begin to suggest something far worse than eccentric scholarship. As fear and suspicion spread through the college, Smith is forced to decide whether he is witnessing fraud, madness, or a forbidden attempt to restore life to a bag of ancient bones.
