A cheerful bank teller learns that his city, his job, and his daily routine are all part of an open-world video game — and that he’s only a background character in it. Ryan Reynolds is the NPC who decides to stop following the script, while Jodie Comer enters the story as a player searching for proof that a gaming company’s CEO stole her code. As he starts rewriting his place in Free City, the teller’s friendship with a fellow guard (Lil Rel Howery) and the interference of that CEO, played by Taika Waititi, begin to upend the digital world around him.
