In contemporary Iran, Simin wants to leave the country with her husband and daughter, but Nader refuses to abandon his father, whose Alzheimer’s is worsening. Leila Hatami is Simin, pushing for a separation as Payman Maadi’s Nader stays behind with their daughter Termeh and the burden of care. When Simin moves out and Nader hires a young woman to look after his father, a household dispute widens into questions of class, marriage, money, and responsibility, with the adults’ decisions pressing hardest on the child caught between them.
