The Zone of Interest

DramaWar106 min

Beside Auschwitz in the 1940s, commandant Rudolf Höss and his wife, Hedwig, try to build an orderly family life in a comfortable house and garden just beyond the camp walls. Christian Friedel is Rudolf, dividing his time between the household and the administration of the camp, while Sandra Hüller’s Hedwig carries herself with the certainty of someone intent on protecting her home. Daily routines — meals, children, and the tending of flowers — unfold against the constant proximity of the camp.
