After a car accident leaves her unable to drive, Daisy Werthan, an elderly Jewish widow, has a chauffeur forced on her by her son Boolie. Jessica Tandy is Daisy, stubborn and sharp-tongued; Morgan Freeman’s Hoke arrives as a hired driver and, over 25 years, becomes part of her daily life. Moving from the 1940s into the 1970s, their relationship shifts from wary employer and employee to something closer, against the backdrop of segregation, the civil rights movement, and a changing South. Dan Aykroyd appears as Boolie, trying to manage them both.
