Akira Kurosawa’s anthology film unfolds in eight visions drawn from his own dreams: a boy stumbles on a fox wedding, a soldier meets the war dead, a traveler steps into Vincent van Gogh’s paintings, and a community lives beside a water mill after scenes of nuclear disaster. Akira Terao is among the faces moving through these stories, and Martin Scorsese appears as van Gogh in one episode. Moving between Japanese folklore, memories of war, Mount Fuji landscapes, and vanished orchards, the film connects childhood wonder, mortality, art, and humanity’s uneasy relationship with nature.
