As the Dutton family fights to hold onto its land in the early twentieth-century mountain west, drought, disease, economic upheaval and shifting lawlessness press in from every side. Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford lead the clan at the center of the story, with younger relatives and ranch hands pulled into conflicts over cattle, territory and survival. Brandon Sklenar and Julia Schlaepfer figure into the next generation as the series tracks a harsh stretch of American life shaped by pandemics, Prohibition-era unrest and the approach of the Great Depression.
