Cat Nation: A Film About Japan's Crazy Cat Culture
Documentary52 min
From cat cafés and bars to temple grounds and entire cat islands, this documentary tours Japan’s unusually expansive cat culture. Chris Broad is the on-camera guide as the film moves through cat-friendly businesses, felines with human-style jobs, and the many places where cats have become part of daily life. Along the way, it looks at how cats fit into Japanese pop culture, from themed hangouts and local attractions to the origins of the familiar beckoning cat statue, the maneki-neko.
