After a string of losses, Blanche DuBois arrives at her sister’s cramped New Orleans apartment looking for refuge. Vivien Leigh is Blanche, a fading Southern belle whose manners and memories collide with the blunt force of Marlon Brando’s Stanley Kowalski, Stella’s husband, while Kim Hunter’s Stella is pulled between them. What starts as an uneasy family arrangement turns into a bruising standoff as Stanley presses into Blanche’s past and her already fragile grip begins to fray. Shot in black and white, the film keeps its focus tight on the apartment, the marriage, and Blanche’s unraveling.
