A dozen young dancers arrive at the American Ballet Academy in New York with the same goal: make it into the professional ballet world before the pressure, rivalries, and demands of training wear them down. Amanda Schull and Zoe Saldana are among the students, each coming from a different background and measuring talent against discipline, ambition, and the academy’s unforgiving standards. Watching over them is Peter Gallagher’s Jonathan Reeves, whose approval can shape what comes next. Rehearsals, auditions, romances, and setbacks crowd in as the class tries to stand out in a field where technique is only part of the test.
