In 1889 France, Benoît Magimel is Dodin Bouffant, a chef and devoted gastronome who shares a home, a kitchen, and a long romance with Eugénie. Juliette Binoche's Eugénie is both his personal cook and his partner, bound to him by years of meals made together, yet unwilling to marry him. Their bond is expressed through preparation, taste, and ritual as much as conversation. When Eugénie continues to refuse his proposals, Dodin decides to do something he has never done before: cook for her himself.
