The Man Who Invented Christmas
ComedyDramaFamily105 min
In 1843 London, Charles Dickens is riding the pressure of success when a disappointing new book and mounting debt leave him scrambling for his next idea. Dan Stevens is Dickens at the point where family strain, childhood memories, and the demands of publishers start feeding directly into his work. As he begins writing A Christmas Carol, Christopher Plummer’s Scrooge takes shape as a sharp, insistent presence in Dickens’s imagination, alongside the other figures who will fill out the story. The film follows the messy overlap of home life, memory, and invention as Dickens tries to turn a crisis into a book.
